If you’re looking for an impressive fine dining gluten free experience with a breathtaking view of San Diego Bay, just request patio seating at Il Fornaio on Coronado Island! They don’t have gluten free pizza, but they do serve delicious gluten free pasta and a tasty selection of gluten free desserts!
I ordered the Conchiglie al Pollo with gluten free penne pasta, chicken breast, broccoli, sun-dried tomatoes, pecorino cheese, roasted garlic, and trebbiano wine. Actually, I substituted artichoke hearts for the brocolli. It was the perfect combination of flavors!
I didn’t plan on eating dessert. I mean, usually the gluten free dessert choices include an uneventful dish of vanilla ice cream minus the toppings. Not at Il Fornaio! If I’m ever on Coronado Island again, I’m coming back to Il Fornaio to gorge myself on gluten free desserts! Of course, all the server had to say was Creme Brulee with Chocolate Mousse and I was a captive audience.
When she found out about my blog, she paraded a couple more irresistible desserts across my path for me to covet, including an almond custard with berries and something that sounds like a Zamboni and looks like a tropical drink masquerading as a dessert. If only I had known about these gluten free treats before I stuffed myself with gluten free pasta. Hindsight is 20/20. At least, now you know to save room for dessert! =)
